The Ultimate Water Defense for Your Teardrop Build
Stop leaks before they start. The Vintage Technologies Hurricane Hinge features a precision-engineered 2-piece extruded aluminum construction with a lower-profile crown and a tighter “nesting pocket” that reduces slop and play — ensuring a snug, consistent seal every time you close your galley hatch.
Standard piano hinges allow water to pool and seep through the gap. Our labyrinth-style interlocking channel traps and redirects water away from your cabin, keeping your gear bone-dry whether you’re parked in a downpour or rolling down the highway.
Build yours below — choose your size, your gutter configuration, and whether you need the offset flat bar.
Base Hinge — Flat Hurricane Hinge
The foundation of every build. A 2-piece extruded aluminum hinge in mill finish (raw aluminum, ready for paint or powder coat). The interlocking channel creates a labyrinth seal with no lid-to-roof offset — ideal for flush-mount installations.
- 2-Piece Extruded Aluminum — Mill Finish
- Lower Profile Crown
- Tighter “Nesting Pocket” within the Crown (less slop/play)
- No lid-to-roof offset (flat/flush mount)

Rain Gutter Configuration — Rain Gutter Hinge
Take water protection to the next level. The Rain Gutter option adds a precision-engineered integrated gutter channel to the top of the hinge. Three layers of protection work together:
Whether you’re restoring a vintage classic or building a rugged overland camper from scratch, this is the professional-grade upgrade for a truly leak-proof galley hatch.

Double Rain Gutter Configuration — Double Rain Gutter Hinge
For builds that demand maximum weather protection. The Double Rain Gutter adds integrated gutter channels to both the top and bottom of the hinge — our most water-resistant configuration.
- Functionality: Engineered for use on doors in RVs, trailers, and outdoor enclosures, the hinge performs in harsh weather conditions, maintaining full door functionality during heavy rain or storms.
- Double Rain Gutters: The integrated dual-channel gutter system collects and diverts rainwater away from the door, preventing water from entering the interior.
- Purpose: Whether the door is open during a storm or closed while traveling, the double rain gutters guide water safely off to the side — minimizing the risk of leaks or water damage.
- Application: Ideal for off-grid builds, camper vans, expedition vehicles, and trailers — any setup where superior weather sealing and long-term durability are essential.

Offset Flat Bar Add-On (+$10.00)
Does your build require clearance between the lid and the roof? The 1/4″ aluminum flat bar creates a 1/4″ lid-to-roof offset at mount — no wall notching required. It installs cleanly in-line with the hinge and is available with any gutter configuration.
- 1/4″ lid-to-roof offset — no need to notch your wall
- 1/4″ x 1″ aluminum flat bar
- Compatible with Flat, Rain Gutter, and Double Rain Gutter configurations
